Completa já uma década desde que iniciou a carreira de técnico. Daí para cá já venceu cinco títulos
“Não vão arrepender-se”. Foi com esta certeza, faz precisamente este domingo uma década, que Sérgio Conceição arrancou para uma carreira de treinador que o fez passar por seis clubes diferentes e já lhe rendeu a conquista de cinco títulos.
Então com 37 anos, o técnico era anunciado no Olhanense com o objetivo de tentar salvar os algarvios de descer de divisão, objetivo que haveria de lograr com facilidade, terminando a prova no 8.º lugar e lançando as bases para o futuro. Daí para cá passou por Académica, Braga, V. Guimarães e Nantes – a única experiência no estrangeiro – antes de ingressar no FC Porto, pelo qual venceu dois campeonatos, duas Supertaças e uma Taça de Portugal.
No currículo constam ainda 421 jogos, 241 vitórias, 87 empates e 91 derrotas. A maior parte destes números foram obtidos pelo clube azul e branco, o único em que ficou mais de duas temporadas completas. De resto, nenhum outro treinador iniciou cinco épocas com Pinto da Costa como presidente. Até por isso viu anteontem ser destapada uma estátua no museu dos dragões, que certamente não estarão arrependidos de uma escolha outrora tomada pelo Olhanense.
